Dreamgenii founder aims for national recognition
Vanessa Blake, mum of two and creator of the award winning dreamgenni Pregnancy Pillow is delighted to have been selected as a semi finalist in the 2010 Babyworld Parentpreneur Award (part of the Remote Worker Awards, in association with BT Business).
The dreamgenii story began when Vanessa was pregnant with her first child. ‘I found it difficult to get comfortable as my pregnancy progressed and I was also conscious of the optimal positioning for the health and well being of my baby. I tried every pregnancy pillow on the market and none of them actually worked. I wanted to design something that ensured that I was comfortable whilst taking into account the healthiest positioning for me and my baby, as well being able to use my pillow post birth as a feeding support.’ After 12 design attempts Vanessa finally had something that worked for her and then started asking for feedback from various midwives and organisations as well as many pregnant friends and volunteers. The pillow was universally welcomed as a huge help for pregnant women.
The unique, patent protected dreamgenii Pregnancy Pillow went on to win many awards and is now sold in over 18 countries worldwide. The business has continued to invest in innovation and added further products to the range including the dreamgenii Breastfeeding Pillow & Baby Nest – described by leading parenting magazines as a ‘must-have for mums’. dreamgenii now manufacture a range of innovative, award winning comfort products that serve to make pregnancies, births and children more comfortable all over the world. Vanessa decided to enter these awards to encourage other parents and budding entrepreneurs that with a great idea and the right approach ideas really can be turned into business success. Vanessa says: “It was hard work in the beginning, trying to get a business up and running with a new baby. It takes passion, resilience and dedication. Trying to get something off the ground can be stressful, and I could never have done it without the support of my husband and all of our family. I firmly believe if you can get through those first few months it’s well worth the effort and I am so proud when I look at what the business has achieved.”
Award winning website, Remote Employment, Google’s No 1 job site for flexible and home based jobs, launched The Remote Worker Awards in association with BT Business to highlight how home working and remote working benefits the British public and their working life. The Babyworld Parentpreneur award is awarded to Parents(s) showing the most successful business and family life combination.
Entries to the awards close on 31st July with the finalists announced in the first week of August, so Vanessa is keeping her fingers crossed and hoping to be selected as a finalist, with the chance of going on to win the award at the Awards Ceremony in September.
