SnoozeShade wins Product Of The Year 2010 at The Startups Awards
SnoozeShade, a British-designed innovative baby sleep product, which launched in the UK in February has walked away with the Product of the Year Award at the prestigious Startups Awards 2010.
The awards ceremony, organised by Startups.co.uk took place on Thursday 2 December at Kensington Roof Gardens in London. The prestigious awards celebrated the UK's most outstanding new businesses and the people running them.
"It feels slightly unreal to have won this award so early in the company's history. SnoozeShade only launched in UK retailers this February and it is a great compliment to have been chosen from amongst such high quality finalists.
"It's been a busy year for SnoozeShade as we have also launched in five countries with another ten coming onboard in the next few months. Five new products are in development with new launches planned throughout 2011. It's an exciting time to be in business," commented Cara Sayer, MD of Really Simple Ideas.
Really Simple Ideas Ltd launched SnoozeShade at the Baby Products Association trade show in October 2009 as a working prototype. It was snapped up by leading retailers including John Lewis, JoJo Maman Bebe and Mothercare, next year sees it launch in hundreds of Tesco stores as well as many other top nursery retailers.
SnoozeShade was invented by Cara Sayer, a British mother who became frustrated by the lack of products that were available designed to help babies sleep on the move. The first SnoozeShade product is a unique blackout blind for prams and pushchairs which was designed as a simple and safe alternative to draping coats or blankets over a pram to help babies sleep when parents are away from home. The next product to launch will be a SnoozeShade for infant car seats.
SnoozeShade has been awarded a range of commendations since launch and has fans including Denise van Outen.
The Startups Awards reward business excellence across a variety of categories, including Women in Business, Home Business of the Year, Innovative Business of the Year, Product of the Year and Green Business of the Year.
The winners of each category were selected by a judging panel consisting of some of the UK's most successful entrepreneurs, including Toni Mascolo, founder of Toni & Guy and Julie Meyer, founder of Adrienne Capital. The successful businesses and the talented people behind them proved their brilliance after fighting off competition from hundreds of entries.
The Startups Awards 2010 are sponsored by Gooroo, specialists in business software.
Dean Miles, Head of Business Development at Gooroo.co.uk, said: "As a company devoted to helping start-up and early growth businesses through online management tools like Gooroo Standard, we're delighted to have sponsored the Startup awards.
"Every one of the finalists in this year's Startups Awards is an inspiration both to those people about to start their own business and to those who have already taken the plunge.
"We may live in difficult times but many new businesses are showing that tremendous results can be achieved through innovative ideas and a tenacious commitment to enterprise."
