The unique, award winning dreamgenii pregnancy pillow has been awarded a CE mark having been recognised as conforming with the requirements of the Medical Devices Directorate for a Class I Medical Device. This landmark achievement provides objective evidence of the genuine medical benefits of the pillow which have been known by its users for some time. Part of the application for this Pan European Standard was dependent on the fact that thousands of dreamgenii pregnancy pillows have been sold to pregnant women to help solve their medical problem – their lack of sleep during pregnancy.
Vanessa Blake, director at dreamgenii said “When the dreamgenii pregnancy pillow was first launched and patented we were well aware that the unique features of the pillow combine to deliver a medical effect and set about getting it classified as such. Initially the authorities were not convinced that the lack of sleep during pregnancy constituted a medical problem, but from the testimonies we had received from women about how using the pillow had helped them we knew this was not the case. Over the years we have continued to work with the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and have now been able to demonstrate that the pillow does deliver a genuine medical benefit for pregnant women."
The patent protected dreamgenii pregnancy pillow is the only pregnancy pillow in the world specifically designed to adequately support back, bump and knees at the same time without taking up all of the room in the bed. It encourages mothers to lie on their left side which is the best position for mother and baby and gently prevents mothers from rolling on to their back during sleep, which can restrict bloodflow to their baby. These features combine to deliver a medical effect and this has now been recognised with its classification as a Class I Medical Device.
A hospital grade version of the dreamgenii pregnancy pillow is already in use by NHS midwives and in NHS delivery suites, as well as by Breastfeeding Coordinators. dreamgenii® has also recently negotiated a new contract with a major NHS wholesaler which will see its Hospital Grade pillows rolled out to further NHS hospitals and delivery suites across the UK.
