Aldi launches wooden toy range to cater for expected demand

Last year, the British toy industry grew by 4.4%, fuelled by the demand for traditional toys including building sets (+13%), dolls (+11%) and arts & crafts (+6%).

Aldi is tapping into the increased consumer demand for traditional toys this Christmas with the launch of a retro wooden toy range.

With the trend for traditional toys and games showing no sign of slowing down this Christmas, Aldi’s new festive toy range is sure to satify the needs of many shoppers with craft sets, wooden toys, puzzles and books all included in the range.

Insight shows that each year parents in the UK buy more toys per child (39) than other European countries, including Germany (25), France (20) and Italy (12). The amount spent per child on toys each year in the UK (£285) is also higher than Germany (£219), France (£233), Italy (£122), the USA (£241) and Russia (£195).

Tony Baines, Joint Managing Director of Corporate Buying at Aldi said: “We’re expecting strong customer interest in wooden toys this year and as such have extended our range of Christmas gifts – in stores from October through to Christmas Eve. Parents needn’t spend a fortune on traditional toys, at Aldi, quality products can be purchased for a lot less than they may think, giving parents every opportunity to tick all the items off their little ones’ wishlists.”
