Buyout groups eye up Mothercare

Cinven looks to Mothercare

Rumours of the Mothercare buyout have been gaining more credibility in recent days, but Cinven has not yet approached Mothercare's board.

It is believed that Cinven is most interested in the international potential of Mothercare, following franchising success in countries such a Greece and Iraq.

Though success overseas has been strong, sales in the UK have been disappointing.

Cinven are by no means the only equity group believed to be interested in Mother care. Others include, Montagu Private Equity and CVC, although neither one has formally approached Mothercare.

Mothercare's shares have fallen from recent highs of 682p in December 2009 to  close at 160.6p on Friday.

A Cinven spokesman declined to comment.
