Carol (and Annette) are vanishing from our society

For years parents called their daughters Carol or Annette – Carol Vorderman and Annette Crosbie being among the most famous.

Now, it seems those names and many others are being consigned to the dustbin of history.

According to Office of National Statistics, there were no new Carols or Annettes in Britain last year. Both Carol and Annette were in the top 100 baby names for girls in 1964 but last year not a single baby girl was given either name.

Other names that are losing popularity include Sandra, Susan, Donna and Denise.

On the boys’ side only 33 were given the name Gary in 2014.
