Doors close on Toys R Us UK

End of an era as the final dozen UK locations turn off the lights for the final time

Yesterday saw the end of a toy era as the lights went out at Toys R Us UK for the final time. The 12 remaining stores shut their doors for the retail giant's final day of trading in Belfast CastleCourt, Brent Cross, Chester, Coventry, Croydon, Derby, Dundee, Norwich, Nottingham, Sheffield, Southampton, Swindon and Warrington.

The last day saw remaining stock with prices slashed by up to 70 per cent. Any remaining stock will be liquidated.

It is estimated that 2000 jobs have been lost with the closure of all stores.

Toys R Us' joint administrator Simon Thomas said: "We are working closely with the 2000 employees affected by the closures to ensure they receive the support they need for redundancy and other compensatory payments."
