Hippychick is delighted to be supporting ERIC, the Children’s Continence Charity, this summer with their annual Dry and Mighty Campaign to raise awareness of bedwetting.
For a child, bedwetting is an isolating condition: not something you will tell your friends and something which will certainly make you think twice about holidays and sleepovers with other children. This summer, thousands of children and their families will be planning trips with overnight stays and for the 500,000 UK children who wet the bed, these trips can be a source of stress, fear and anxiety. It can be stressful for parents too – having to cope with wet beds in hotels, or at unsympathetic relatives’, is not easy and will certainly affect the family holiday.
So, what are the stats? Well, in brief, bedwetting affects 1 in 12 children and young people across the UK. It is estimated that bedwetting costs a family an additional £2,000 a year. A recent ERIC survey revealed that two thirds of parents think their child wetting the bed is the worst thing that could happen during a sleepover at a friend’s home. Not to mention the links to bullying!
Also backing the campaign is Lynda Bellingham, star of Calendar Girls and Loose Women, who had this to say, “In life, there are little things that can have a really big impact on a family and bedwetting is one of those things - but it doesn’t have to be. ERIC is a fantastic charity and is able to pinpoint this issue. By contacting ERIC, families can stop childhood bedwetting becoming a big thing that takes over their lives.”
