CHOOSING A TRAVEL SYSTEM: A MORE IMPORTANT DECISION THAN YOU THINK?
PARENT-CHILD INTERACTION IS THE KEY TO A HAPPY CHILD
Years of study into early brain development and the importance of parent-child interaction have highlighted to Dr Suzanne Zeedyk just how important choosing a travel system is.
Speaking at the recent Graco press day, Dr Zeedyk discussed the importance of choosing a travel system that facilitates interaction with baby and reflected on how the choice of travel system is likely to shape children’s development in wider ways than we expect.
Dr Zeedyk said: 'Neuroscience is telling us that the brain develops more quickly between birth and three years than it ever will again. This is exactly the period that children spend in buggies.”
She went on to say: “During infancy in particular, a baby looks to parents for reassurance, interaction and comfort. If the baby can’t easily find the parent, by seeing or hearing them, then it is harder for the baby to feel connected and reassured.”
Dr Zeedyk attended the Graco press day to endorse Graco’s foresight, after developing their two most recent designs, the Graco Fusio and the Graco Symbio, influenced by Dr Zeedyk’s parent-child interaction studies. Graco felt it had become clear that greater thought needed to be given to modern pushchair design. Dr. Zeedyk particularly praised the facility of the travel systems to easily switch between the two orientations.
