Maya set to make a buzz at UK cinemas

New deal will see Maya the Bee movie capture the hearts of new audiences in UK and Nordics.

Munich-based international sales company, Studio 100 Film, has inked a deal with London-based pan-European entertainment company, Primal Screen for CGI animated movie, Maya the Bee. The deal includes all rights for the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland and will see Maya and her friends hitting the big screen in the UK in October 2015.

Studio 100 Film has already sold the animated feature film Maya the Bee in over 160 territories so far, including North America and has seen impressive box office sales.

Produced by Studio 100 Media and Buzz Studios, in association with Flying Bark Productions, Maya the Bee features the acclaimed voice talent of Coco Jack Gillies (Mad Max: Fury Road), Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom, Silver Linings Playbook), Miriam Margolyes (Harry Potter, Babe), Richard Roxburgh (Mission: Impossible II) and many more.

Since its launch in April 2014 on the pre-school channel Tiny Pop, Maya the Bee has already reached a large audience and is now in the top 5 properties of the channel in Freeview homes (April 2015). The show currently airs throughout the day, the evening ‘cuddle time’ slot at 6.30pm being the most popular.

“Maya the Bee is consistently one of Tiny Pop’s most popular programmes and we are delighted that British audiences will now be able to watch their favourite character on the big screen," said Christophe Drevet, International Consumer Products Director. "With the support of Primal Screen, we envisage Maya the Bee becoming a cinematic hit in the UK and Scandinavia as the brand continues to gain momentum globally.”

The cinematic debut later this year will give Maya the opportunity to charm new fans and reach a wider audience attracting families throughout the UK and Scandinavia. The licensing team, Studio 100 International, will also be working proactively to introduce the extensive range of merchandise into the UK and Nordics markets and will be seeking new retail and licensing partners to support their programme.

Tim Grohne, CEO of Primal Screen added: “Maya the Bee is a truly endearing character having already entertained generations of children and adults. We are delighted to be partnering with the Studio 100 team to introduce Maya to cinema audiences for the very first time.”
