Natural Baby Shower turns over £1m in first year

Award-winning Natural Baby Shower opened the doors to their first retail store in May this year but have already turned over more than a million pounds.

Natural Baby Shower was founded by Surrey mum-of-three Victoria Hampson, who launched the online business with her boyfriend Clifton Vaughan in 2007.

Victoria and Clifton invested £10,000 of their own money and started the business from their kitchen table. The website took off and became a huge success almost immediately and they turned over £20,000 in their first year. After eight successful years of trading online Victoria and Clifton knew it was finally the right time to launch a bricks and mortar store.

“We knew opening a bricks and mortar store could be a risk as we had seen so many stores fail when trying to make the transition from online to on the High Street, but we also knew there was a gap in the market for the kind of ‘destination’ retail store we envisaged,” explained Victoria.

“We worked really hard on the design and concept, we wanted to create somewhere light and airy where mums could shop at their leisure without feeling under pressure. We also wanted to create a place where they would feel comfortable asking questions, trying out items like cloth nappies and carriers and seeing for themselves how easy they are to use. It was also important to us to create a toddler-friendly corner with wooden toys and a sofa for dads where they could sit and read a magazine, all aiding an enjoyable, stress-free shopping experience for the whole family.”

All of Victoria and Clifton’s ideas were carefully executed and the ‘destination store’ opened its doors in Surrey in May.
