Nursery workers 'would lose almost £1.8k' under government plans

Nursery workers could have been around £1,800 a year worse off if the Government’s plan to cut tax credits had been passed.

The House of Lords voted 307 to 277 in favour of a motion put forward by 75-year-old Baroness Meacher, who advocates the decriminalisation of hard drugs, to delay the imposition of the government’s plans.

The Institute of Fiscal Studies showed that three million families would lose £1,000 a year.

Lady Hollis tabled a motion demanding the Government provide every low-income families and individuals currently receiving tax credits with three years’ compensation.

Analysis by the Children’s Society and Child Poverty Action Group said that nursery nurses would lose out by £1,788 a year.
