Tax bill threat for Toys R Us

Reports suggest retailer is pushing for a deal before the VAT payment deadline

A 15m tax bill is pushing the British arm of troubled toy giant Toys R Us to secure an investment deal before 27 February, according to Sky News.

Talks are believed to have taken place both with retailer The Entertainer and Alteri Investors, which invests in ‘challenging situations in the European retail sector’.

It is also understood that Hilco Capital, which salvaged the music and entertainment retailer HMV in 2013, has made a proposal that involves taking on just some of the 105 British Toys R Us stores.
