UK retail sales growth hits 14-year high

Retail sales volumes grew 7.4 per cent in October - the biggest rise since 2002

Retail sales grew at their fastest rate in 14 years in October, with Halloween and the colder weather giving sales a seasonal lift.
Data from the Office for National Statistics show retail sales volume climbed 7.4 per cent last month, the most significant uplift since 2002.
ONS statistician Kate Davies said: ”Cooler temperatures boosted clothing sales as shoppers took their cue to purchase winter clothing, while the supermarkets benefited from Halloween.”

Economists are warning, however, that fallout from the Brexit vote will likely be felt more strongly at retail next year.
